On Thursday, August 24, 2017 I got the experience to follow Horizon Specialty Hospital of Henderson’s Wound Care Team. During this experience, I was able to witness the removal of a wound VAC (vacuum assisted closure) and surgical stitches, different methods of wound monitoring and discussed the healing process. For new admissions, the Wound Care Team does a physical examination of the body, looking for any wounds, bruises, scars, tubes and IV placements. They take pictures, measurements and note the location of the wound. Since the hospital still uses paper charting, they handwrite all of their notes and upload them to the patients' medical chart when done with their assessment.…
Case Study and Pathogenic Causes Case Study “A man in his late thirties was referred to a specialist bone infection service. He had congenital hip dysplasia which had undergone bilateral hip replacements by the age of 21 years. In his early thirties, the left prosthetic hip was replaced because of mechanical problems, with the right side replaced the following year. A year later he developed bilateral discharging sinuses over the hips and underwent several incision and drainage procedures.”…
Surgical Site Infections are related to delayed healing, increased patient morbidity and mortality, increased hospital stay, readmission and facility costs. Anderson et al. (2014) explains that these infections extend a patients hospital stay on average of 7 to 11 days and cost roughly $3.5 to $10 billion annually in healthcare expenditures according to the consumer price index for inpatient hospital services. Most of these costs are not reimbursed by insurance because they fall within the 30-day readmission rate. Shepard et al.…

Section D: Solution Description The proposed solution in the evidence-based practice (EBP) project is the plan to overcome an identified problem. It should be reasonable and accomplishable within the time frame and the budget constraints. The evaluation of the outcomes should be quantifiable by the empirical evidence (Roberts & Yeager, 2004).…
Surveys on quality and customer values are performed by Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys. The studies of customer satisfaction with ACA indicates that the interpretation of patient satisfaction can be complex, but it is very important to understand the trends in order to provide the customers of the highest quality of patient experience. Nonetheless, patient satisfaction has shown a trend to increase since the start of…
I feel that this is an experience that every student in healthcare should go through. One of the most important observations that I made concerns the various procedures of preventing infections in the operating room. The prevention majorly focuses on the patient, especially when considered the patient has open sounds during the operating process. At times, the practitioners tend to forget the importance of cleaning their hands with soap and water or with alcohol-based cleaners when interacting with the environment (Scott, Earl, Leaper, Massey, Mewburn, Williams, 1999). Notably, the assumption that the practitioner does not need to clean hands simply because they have gloves is misplaced, and it is often overlooked (Weber, Anderson, &Rutala, 2013; Karki& Cheng, 201)).…
discharge. Both control and experimental groups received the same physical therapy regimen that began the day of surgery or during the first postoperative day. The physical therapy sessions consisted of a one-on-one session with the physical therapy team twice a day. An additional ambulation session a day with a mobility technician was also implemented in both groups.…
Quality care is the number one factor with primary care as well as hospital care. The outcome treatment depends on the way the primary handle their patient after listening to their concerns and if they can help them that would give the patient satisfaction outcome because they feels that their doctor is taking care of their needs. Where as in the hospital setting doctors work hard to find the root of the problem that the patient experiencing and make sure that they can resolve or will refers to another specialist to help them. Some skeptics who focus on patient’s satisfaction believe that if they diverts attention from what ought to be the primary concern an era of resource limits such as inappropriate care or underuse of necessary care and clinical outcomes such as morbidity, mortality and health…
I walked into the operating room, bile rising in my stomach as I saw all the shiny sterile equipment. Fear is a small price to pay for knowledge, but at this moment, I weighed the possibility of oblivion. No, I had gone through too much to back down now. This exploratory surgery was supposed to give me more information than the MRI and Catscan that I had months earlier.…
Sara Lin’s education plan related to postoperative incision care must include teaching of infection symptoms and when to notify the practitioner. In addition, I will inform Sara and family members of any activity restrictions, including activities allowed or to be avoided and the duration of the…
There are many foods to eat after wisdom teeth removal that you do not need to worry from getting starved. These food will not only taste good but are also healthy and tolerable too. They are soft and usually mashed in order for you to be able to chew it easily without being uncomfortable while eating. What to eat after wisdom teeth extraction will obviously be enough to give you the strength for the next few days to come while the removal site is still on the healing process. 1.…
There are several methods to acquire feedbacks to improve quality care. One way is patient’s survey, it can be done by mailing questionnaires, interview over the phone or in person. Another way is listening post, it is important to become in tuned to what the patient or customer is communicating. Listening post strategies include focus groups, walk-throughs, complaint and compliment letters, patient and family advisory councils. Patient’s and customer’s feedback is important for an organization growth.…
