They’re designed to foster citizen participation in the state though sometimes they fail to do so. Along that, they assist candidates that are running for office by helping them raise money, assist with legal requirements and training for a campaign, and provide them with a label that they can run on. They also assist the voters by helping them make their electoral choices and recruit individuals that are new politically involved. Most of the times, third parties mainly focus on a particular issue, which contributes to the fact that they only appear at certain points. The most well-known third parties have been the Populist Party, Dixiecrats, and La Raza Unida. The Populist Party was mainly backed up by small farmers that were looking to democratize the economic system. The party was built on the foundation of the fundamentalist churches. Therefore, farmers linked religious themes with the government. Although they didn't achieve their main goal, some of their popular ideas were overtaken by Democratic Politicians.
