Both the narrator’s point of views is in first person.
Setting: The story was set in about 1500 – 1700. Its main locations were Ellen’s house in the slums of a village, the Witch’s house in the middle of the woods, and Viola’s house on the outside of the woods. Ellen’s house was next to an alley where Ellen saw the black cat. The Witch’s house previous “owner,” became the house. She ran the house, giving it a “soul,” allowing the house to be an efficient killing machine for the demon to feed.

She lived in a village that was near the woods where the Witch’s house was at. The forest was bountiful all year-round, which was very useful for the villagers. Her father always told her, “Don’t go too deep into the forest.”
Conflict or Problem: Ellen’s biggest struggle was her health. With the skin on her legs and face being inflamed since birth. This has caused her to be bedridden for the majority of her life. Her father never acknowledged her, and pretended that she didn’t exist. Her mother was the only one who cared about her. Ellen went out one day to bury a dead cat, and she got all dirty. When she got back her mother broke down and left because she couldn’t handle Ellen anymore. When her mother returned, Ellen killed her with a knife and then killed her father with the same knife.
Solution: The solution was Viola. Ellen has been stuck in a hurting body for hundreds of years, and she was really for a new one. Now when she was inside the witch’s house, it temporally cured her illness. If she were to go outside the house couldn’t cure her, and the inflammation returned instantly. It has taught me to listen to my parents and to not lie to them, and to not trust strangers. In the book, Viola, was told repeatedly to not go far into the woods. When she did she found the black cat, he then led her to Ellen’s house, which she found a sick and ill Ellen. After making multiple trips to Ellen’s house, Viola feels so bad for Ellen that she decides that if she could swap bodies with Ellen she would. Since Ellen is a witch, she can do just that. Ellen cuts off her legs and gouges out her eyes, before Viola comes over the next day to switch bodies. In the end, if Viola had listened to her father, she wouldn’t have to go through tremendous amounts of pain and suffering, and ultimately being killed by her own
