when it comes down to it I lean more towards the Cannon-beard theory. I think that the James- Lange theory loses some of its credibility based on the fact that too many situations can cause the same type of physical reactions. For example, if I were to see a bear in the woods I most certainly would be startled and I would most likely stop in my tracks. My heart would start to pound and I would be very freighted. Now with that being said the same type of physical reaction may happen in a totally different situation. for example, if I were walking down the street and I see my favorite football player I would also stop in my tracks and my heart would pound but this time my emotion would be excitement not fear. So these two totally different situation produce the same type of physical reaction but two totally different emotions are the root of the reactions. Another example is, I’m scared of flying and well before I actually step foot onto a plane my palms are sweaty, my heart is racing, my throat is dry and I am absolutely terrified. These physical reactions are present long before I actually board the plane. So like Cannon-beard it’s my belief that stimulation/arousal and emotion are a combined response to a stimulated event. I do believe that the emotion we experience is a direct result of whatever situation we find ourselves in i.e. bear or football
