In 2013, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) adopted the vision statement of “transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience” to guide all practitioners of its profession. As an aspiring doctor of physical therapy, I will pursue those guidelines as a model for the type of physical therapist I strive to be. Some of my duties included assisting the physical therapist with therapeutic exercises, assessing patient needs, and supporting the front office. In addition, I also observed a few of the physical therapists. Many patients who come in are often stressed as they are unfamiliar with how the rehabilitation process works or unsure if physical therapy can return them to their former quality of life. But once they meet the physical therapist, many of their worries become eased. I was amazed at the physical therapist’s ability to create a comforting environment for the patient while guiding the patient through each step of the rehabilitation process. I aspire to be like them, patient and knowledgeable, and able to provide those in need with individualized
