As far as remembering about the phonograms that is what I lacked. My teacher only went over the phonograms in one week never using the phonograms to teach how to decode the words. Instead she taught the phonograms using the alphabets from A-Z then she just jumped into the phonics. That is where I struggled learning the phonics because I could not make that connection between the phonograms to a word. Until last year I finally now know the sounds of those phonograms. But then again you might want to walk the student through the method on how it’s done. Next time they may be able to do it on their own so demonstrating the gradual release will definitely show how much the child has learned. I have had that same experience where it was just drilling and worksheets. It would have been great to actually do hands on because I love to learn that way.
