The sport involves moving multiple muscle groups in a high-intensity, cardio workout. All four strokes involve working different muscle groups at different times. Often times, children and adults take up swimming for weight loss. It burns calories quickly, and is easier for overweight people to pick up because it is a low-impact activity. Aside from weight loss, introducing your child to swimming early on will promote a healthy life. Once he or she learns to swim, they may hop in a pool at any point in their life to get a low-risk, high-intensity workout.
Swimming can help with common body issues. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, swimming can help with chronic diseases and mental health. Water-based exercise like swimming improves the use of joints affected by arthritis. You can feel your body gliding across the top of the water, almost as if you are flying or gliding across ice like a penguin. That is what swimming really is, it is full of the drive and energy you get from it. The time and effort that is put into it leads to the impulse to swim. You suddenly desire to swim and it becomes a coping mechanism, or an escape. Swimming had been studied to cure depression, or decrease the level or depression. You dive into the water and can swim for hours without and worries of traumatic injuries, instead you can think and are given the time to feel better about yourself.
