The reason why we should support the use of nuclear energy is because, “scientists have estimated that if all the accidents at nuclear reactors were averaged …show more content…
“In the United States, fossil fuels supply about 85 percent of commercial energy. This situation cannot continue indefinitely, because fossil fuel supplies are finite. They will eventually be exhausted” (Energy and the Environment). Although people today have grown dependent on fossil fuel, this resource is heavily damaging the planet. This dependency on fossil fuel is causing the planet damage in the form of climate change, air pollution, oil spills, and acid rain, furthermore fossils are a limited resource which will not last …show more content…
This ties to the reference of deaths of people in a day when driving compared to plane accidents resulting in deaths; nuclear power being the plane, and the one to be remembered and talked about when it happens. Throughout history there have been catastrophes that have occurred in these nuclear power plants, but they don’t occur frequently. When something of this magnitude does happen, there is always something to be learned. Scientists find the causes of these errors and find some or invent new technology that will prevent the same error in the future. The shift from using the old sources of power will happen with time, even if we get to the point of exhausting our resources, the change will happen. And even if we use alternative power sources, nuclear power will become the main source of power because there is still much to learn and appreciate about this source and its forms of waste storage, that it is the source of power of the
