Personally, I think that mentally ill and those on the no-fly list should not be able to purchase these weapons, but even if these provisions are made, there’s still many more people that shouldn’t have access to guns either. Should there be a course or a certain amount of time a person has to train with a gun before they are allowed to use it? Should there be a kind of DMV process to acquiring a gun? Can’t the people aiming to do wrong still get a gun even if these rules are put in place? When we question how evildoers get guns, we immediately think of the infamous black market. However, many of these guns being acquired by those involved in malpractice are being stolen, illegally traded, or bought by a friend of the perpetrator. The black market typically plays a minor part overall, so maybe there should be more focus on the individual buy and sell license.
