Being a male and not being circumcised is found to be unusual and rare. Shortly after the birth of a boy the doctor asks and suggests to the parents about circumcision since its cost free and may be covered by most insurance companies. Usually if there is a male or father figure present, they make the decision and most likely the decision is to follow through with the procedure not only for health reasons but also for acceptance from society (Goldman, p.31). Although there are plenty of countries that participate in female circumcision, it seems as though Africa is one of the more popular known ones. The person who is doing the surgery usually waits for a group of girls to reach the appropriate age in which they believe circumcision can be performed. The groups taken to get circumcised are unaware of what’s about to take place because they are deceived and are told that they are being taken to a place of kid’s interest. In reality, they are taken into a hut where they encounter the medically untrained elder who will be preforming the procedure without any painkillers or anesthesia.
