The 2nd grade classroom of Jody Craddock-Iselin has 20 students and each of them has their own personality. I have been observing this class every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. where I am learning so much about how to teach. I have taught two whole group lessons where I have learned that sometimes you have to teach on the student’s level to help them learn and understand the lesson better. I also have got the opportunity to teach a guided reading lesson which has helped me to understand students on different levels of the reading scale. I think that I am doing well in this class and I am learning so much from my teacher.…

Personal Philosophy My personal leisure philosophy is that leisure is a state of mind as well as an activity. It is about making time for yourself and having fun without the stress of everyday life. I believe that leisure is essential for human function, especially for students. Leisure is about a healthy mind and body.…
I struggled in elementary and secondary school and by the time I got to high school, I thought I just wasn’t smart. I left my high school of 150 graduates and went to Texas Tech armed with a lack of confidence. I found myself on scholastic probation for two semesters and my third semester was a disaster. I got married, had two children and decided I was going back to college determined to be successful. It was during those years, I discovered I didn’t receive or retain information the way it was presented in school.…
In conclusion, this project made me think of what a student must feel in this situation every day. I think we need to make the student feel included in every way in the classroom. We want the student to feel comfortable coming to school and learning. We need to set the environment to a positive learning experience to fit the individual need to help them accomplish their learning goals. We need to teach all the students to respect and help one another in the…
Compassion- A classroom is a safe place for students. It is up to the teacher to create this environment. Teachers can do this by talking to students in the hallways, when they get off the bus, when they are switching classes, and ask them how they are doing, what they did over the weekend, and mean it. When a teacher talks to a students and has a real conversation, it makes that student feel special.…
Education is a crucial aspect of society, and has an impressive change in the generations that are to come. When I was in my senior year of high school, my english teacher taught me how to express myself through my own descriptive writing. Throughout these years of being a student, I never had a mentor reach out to me in that way with writing. After graduating, I took a year off from school so I could figure out what I wanted to major in. In that time, I realized how influential teachers and professors can be in those years for pupils.…
A professional development plan for an educator is personalized plans that consist of the teacher’s goals, the resources needed, and the expected outcome. Each professional development plan will vary from teacher to teacher, because the plan is based on the specific teacher’s goals. This plan will allow me to put my beliefs and goals in one document. Including a list of all the different theories I have learned and how they will benefit my students. Creating this professional development plan will allow me to set up my goals I tend to accomplish over the next year or so.…
This essay will discuss a personal teaching philosophy, an approach to classroom management and culturally responsive teaching practice. The learning theories of behaviourism, social constructivism and humanism will be considered and each theory’s influence on practice will be examined. Strengths and weakness bound in the practice of each approach will be reflected on and the inclusion of the Treaty of Waitangi [ToW] principles will be considered as a guide for effective teaching practice. I see my teaching philosophy as a continuous learning journey that shapes effective practice rather than a list of attributes that label my classroom pedagogy. I believe there is something to be learnt from everyone and that all learning is context…
Classroom Environment I plan on teaching at the Elementary level specifically first grade. I think that the first day of school is critical in establishing classroom environment. Creating a positive learning environment is believe is done through establishing classroom rules and procedures and then following through with them. In Charles (2014)…
Teaching Philosophy After wanting to change my major to secondary education, I thought of what subject I love to learn and have a passion for; I thought of the people in my life that has the biggest influence and I look up to. All I could think of was past history teachers that fed my passion for historical knowledge and how much I learned academically, as well as much needed life lessons. I wanted to be a part of that. I want to influence young minds and leave a positive impression in their lives and be someone they can look up to as I do for my old teachers.…
I will help the children choose effective pathways to learn about the subjects. The students and I will build a strong democracy when it comes to developing standards of behavior and rules for our classroom community. We will have classroom meetings, where each student’s voice is important, respected and heard. At the classroom meetings, we will not only share things that are good, and strengthen the community, but we will also have a safe forum for talking out issues within the community, so they may be resolved and rules and ethics revised. Our community will treat each other with respect and kindness and honor each other’s diversity.…
Why I Teach Teaching is undoubtedly one of the most important jobs in the world to have, and undeniably is a job that requires its own purpose statement and philosophy. For me, my purpose in teaching is to build confidence, security, and successful outcomes in the learning experience of all students that I encounter. Additionally, there are several philosophies I feel fit my teaching personality in the classroom. Ornstein & Hunkins 2013 state, “To a large extent, our philosophy of education determines our educational decisions, choices, and alternatives” (p. 28).…
I can do this by decorating the classroom and getting to personally know and communicate with the students. This allows the students to feel safe, loved, and cared about, which leaves the students wanting to learn and live up to the standards the teacher sets for them. The classroom should be a safe place for the students to express their ideas and thoughts. They should actively participate in their learning through discussions and feel comfortable doing so.…
