The Big Move
I can still remember that day if you ask me; I thought my dreams were finally coming true. It was a very humid and sunny afternoon; that's very typical in New York during the summer time. It was a big day for me, the day that I'd be moving a thousand miles away from what I called home. I felt as if I would have a better life in Florida. Growing up in New York, I wasn't the best kid in school, in the fourth grade, I was put into summer school because I didn't pass the Regents for math and reading. I remember my mom crying while reading the letter they had sent from the school, saying that my academic scores were low, and I wasn't doing good in school. I asked her if …show more content…
The vast, seemingly empty, space was filled with glittering, diamond-like stars. Ribbon-Like clouds were prancing around the full moon. "Even the moon itself is beautiful." My stepmother whispered. Each crater on its bright face was visible. The moon, the stars, the streaming clouds, everything, glowed with its ominous light. Everything was perfect. August 5th ‘2007, the start of my 5th-grade year at Skyline Elementary School. I was so ecstatic and happy as ever. I couldn't wait to make new friends, and see new faces. Months go by, and boy is I home sick. I remember the summer after fifth-grade year, I visited my family back in New York, and I loved every minute of it. I never wanted to go back home to Florida; I never wanted to leave my mom again. At this point I took back everything I said in the beginning, I missed the rush hour, and I honestly missed the snow. I enjoyed snowball fights and snow angels back in the day with my little siblings. I cried and begged my mom to let me stay, but she always told me "once you go through with something, there is no turning back." Going back to Florida for my sixth-grade year, I had finally adjusted. I had to get used to the fact that I couldn't go back "home." Going to New York every summer was a thing for me then, and I was content with …show more content…
I had got accepted into LIUBrooklyn, and I was ready to start my adult life. The school didn't start until the middle of September, but I moved back early, at the beginning of June, to try and readjust. I lived in Florida for my fifth-grade year to after my senior year of high school. All I knew was Florida; my mindset was Florida. Right after my birthday, July 5th, I realized New York wasn't for me, this wasn't home to me anymore. I love New York but not enough to live there. I got accepted into my dream school but had to turn it down because it just wasn't a fit for me. I got used to the palm trees, and they stood or leaned against the light, and their green feathers were thousands of feet up in the air. The ground beneath them was a bank covered with coarse grass, torn everywhere by the upheavals of fallen trees, scattered with palm saplings. The sunny winters, not having to shovel snow from my front door and no more walking while shivering. During that period, while still being in New York, I applied to FSW so that I can start in the spring. I applied for my first job ever; that was exciting. I wanted to feel like I had a reason to move
