It was very emotional for my mother since she hadn’t seen them in ten years. I didn’t really know them at all, all I knew was the story my mother would tell me about them, everything was new to me but that night as I met all my family members, we quickly began to build a beautiful relationship. I remembered seeing all the children outside running and playing in the street; which were all cracked and not leveled out. The house in front of my grandma’s house was an abandoned house but since my mom was friends with the owner, we were able to stay there for a few days when too many family members would want to stay at my grandma’s house. Looking back, it sounds creepy and weird, but at the time I found it so cool and exciting. I remember my mom would let me go outside me being only five, I felt so grown, hanging out with all the children of the block. It was just a really good experience well spent with a big family. Walking through the street of Guanica was not the same, the streets were redone and new, my grandma’s house was no longer red and brown instead it was yellow and orange. Even though everything looks new and improved it was lonely. My grandma’s house was abandoned, along with many other houses in that street. I didn’t see any children running around in the streets. It was like being in Elizabeth, you would rarely see anyone outside. Everything was just so empty and lonely. My auntie Lucy would want to do much walking like before all she wanted to do was stay in her house and if she had to go out she would take her car everywhere. There were a lot more cars on the streets, everyone just looked so busy. The hardest heartbreaking thing for my family going back was known my grandma was no longer going to be there. My mom was broken to go back to such an empty house. Everything was just gone but I learn to hold on to the beautiful memories and not want to relive them but to create new
