Personal Narrative: My Time At Lakeshore Technical College

Improved Essays
At first, I was unsure what Lakeshore Technical College had to offer. While looking over the many programs that are offered, the accounting program intrigued me the most. The program outcomes are: processing financial transactions throughout the accounting cycle, analyze financial and business information, perform payroll tasks, learn to handle accounting costs and its implications, perform business and private tax preparation, and identify internal controls to reduce risk. Finally, more than ever, I’m excited to share the knowledge that I have accumulated during my time at Lakeshore Technical College.
In the first year of accounting I did an exercise called My Lemonade Company. The Lemonade Company had helped me understand how to record journal entries into the ledger and create financial statements, which are part of processing financial transactions in the accounting cycle. Another exercise was the pricing of the bonds, that had shown me how to calculate bonds for journalizing. The amortization schedule exercise was learned to also process the accounting cycle. Furthermore, homework problem chapter 16-2 in Accounting had developed my understanding in how to create financial statements. Another project I did towards the end of the

In my Cost Accounting class, short exercise in chapter 7 (S7-1) had taught me how to calculate the CM ratio and CM. It had strengthened my reporting and analyzing skills. One major project that I did was the standard cost project, it had taught me how to calculate and analyze the company’s spending to see if it is favorable or unfavorable. The chapter 5 portfolio was a good learning exercise to as prepping me up for the cost activities and projects. Then the chapter 11 portfolio P11-54A had improved my decision making by having to analyze if the managers were doing a good job and if the company should continue using the system or

As a first time student attending Spokane Falls Community College, I honestly thought that the only buildings and areas of campus involving my class schedule would be of importance. Little did I know that one room I would encounter would become my safe haven. I remember the first day stepping out onto campus and all I saw was a giant riddle waiting to be solved so many parking spaces, buildings, rooms, classes, and students. The anticipation bubbling up inside of me was exciting and rooted with a little nervousness. I was searching for place to keep me focused on my goal of being a successful student, a place to refresh between rigorous lectures.…

I started attending Lone star college right after high school, at first, I began with the typical high school graduate state of mind, which was that college was going to be a breeze and that it would all be fun and games; more worried about what was going on in my social life rather than studying the books. Especially since I had no real responsibilities to handle or much life experience. Around my first year of college, I started dating this girl and not long after we conceived our first son. Once this happened, my focus slowly shifted from school to working a full-time job at a welding shop in order to provide for my family. I still tried to attend class but was unable to find the balance between work, school and family and this reflected my grades.…

On Wednesday, September 21st, the junior and senior class of my school went to Franklinton High School—where we were introduced to post-secondary institutions such as state universities and local community colleges. I admittedly already had a fair idea of what I planned on doing after school. My “carefully thought-out plan” was this: I would go to Northshore Technical Community College in the summer to get my CNA so that I can gain the patient-care experience necessary for my later plans for college. I would then attend LSU for four years and earn a bachelor’s in dietetics, and possibly minor in psychology. Afterward, I would attend a PA school somewhere within the US—possibly the one at LSU.…

My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

I grew up in a family of accountants and auditors, where watching business news on TV during dinner time and listening to investment discussions at dinner table constituted my daily “extracurricular activities”. Our class had 283 students and organized six events a year. I was good at math since elementary school and was extremely confident with the responsibility I had to carry.…
