After analyzing my consumption of those 5 things for a week I noticed I within the normal range for what is recommended for my age group. Although, some weeks I do go over the recommended numbers for m diet. One of the guidelines outlined is “Balancing calories with physical activity” (DGA2010) which is something I try to follow for my personal diet. Following this guideline helps me maintain a healthy weight and reduces my risk for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and osteoporosis. The second guideline listed is “Consume more of certain foods and nutrients, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, and seafood”. (DGA2010) This is a guideline I should try to follow more strictly when it comes to eating more fruits and vegetables. Although I am balancing my calories and keeping them within the recommended range I am at times not making the best choices when it comes to choosing nutrient dense foods. I tend to over enjoy foods that are rich in added sugars such as ice cream and yeast breads. I have made some changes to my diet in the last couple of years by cutting back on sweets and choosing a healthier alternatives in their place. By keeping my diet and physical activity maintained it will lower my risk for serious health risk such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. I have learned keeping a diary with my food intake helps keep me accountable for the food I am eating and the significance they have on my health. I’ve learned it important to beware of the fatty acids that are consumed in my diet. I think for my personal diet it is important I am mindful of the saturated and trans fats I consume so I am not over indulging because these types of fat can lead to increased blood
