I was a scrawny kid, but I was still bigger and stronger than a lot of the competition. Unfortunately, when I got to high school I was one of the smaller players. I did not know what my role was. However, the team did not have a quarterback. I knew I could no longer compete with the bigger linemen, so I decided to give the new position a try. The tables had turned and I was faced with a decision that, while insignificant in the long run, would decide my character. My role was no longer to play where I wanted, but to play where I was needed. This experience helped me realize how important every member of a team is and taught me that sometimes you have to rely on the people around you to help you succeed. Although this was a relatively small event in my life, it paints a picture of who I am as a person, a team player. While my football career was short lived, I am currently gearing up for my fourth season of high school hockey. I am a team player, but I don't believe that is the only characteristic that defines me. I have watched many great teammates, and friends, step into new roles during my athletic career. Now I am watching freshmen, not much taller than five feet walk in the door behind me. I am more than excited to jump into my new role as a leader. I can only hope that the impact I make will be equal to that of my
