I feel unsteady as I stumble towards the table. The air tasted sickly sweet, but at the same time, dry and musty. The laughter and conversation of my classmates fills my ears. It doesn’t mean that everyone is my friend or that I agree with everything the person does, but I let them be who they are. It doesn’t mean that if I don’t agree with someone then I’ll try to change them, but it’ll show me their true colors. Sitting with someone who is alone at lunch or just spending some time to ask how someone’s day is doing, can really make the person feel welcomed and alone. You might’ve just made a new friend, like me when I just showed someone how to get to the cafeteria and pay for their food when it was their first day. Maya Angelou once said, “Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud”. I find this quote inspirational and motivational for you to help others. That girl in third grade made me feel special and discover things that I never knew that I liked and she helped me when I was in a rough spot. In the cafeteria that day, that girl most likely didn’t have friends because she just moved and I reached out to her. It might seem silly but you change someone’s life and make them happy.
