For Example Former presidential candidate and soldier, John mccain reminisces of his times during the vietnam war in the notorious war camp, the hanoi hilton, tells the story of a man so loyal, “He was making the flag because he knew how important it was for us to be able to pledge our allegiance to our flag and our country” (#). As a true patriot we express love for those away fighting for us and we appreciate them for what they do, laying down their life to uphold our lives, for that, as an american, we appreciate them and do all we can. as seen in the quote by john mccain his fellow soldier created a flag to remind everyone of the love back home and sewed into the inside of his shirt to symbolize his love for america and its people's love for him. In addition these soldiers fought long and hard sadly there are some souls lost in acts of valor and display the highest levels of, “Duty, Honor, Country. As mentioned prior America's soldiers are the poster representation of leaders, for each and every soul on the battlefield presses on lifting each one of their brothers up charging this legion of leaders into battle, as John F. Kennedy once said, “The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission” (John). As a leader one takes action when life seems hard or impossible, a leader “takes the path less traveled”(Robert Frost) forging their way into new realms of understanding and behind them are a mass of leaders soon to be.
