But now that they had a bomb available for use the United States had to figure if they even wanted to drop it, and if so where and when to drop it. President Harry S. Truman first said he would give Japan a chance to surrender, but Japan was reluctant and just wanted to sign a peace treaty. Truman then decided he wanted to use the newly created bomb to destroy parts of Japan. This was because he wanted to bring a quick end to the ongoing war with Japan that started with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which ended up being the start of World War II. These bombings helped to bring an end to World War II. Hiroshima means “broad island”. The day was ever so normal until this bombing took place, and it took the city of Hiroshima a while before it was able to return back to normal. An American B-29 bomber, in the plane named Enola Gay, traveled from Tinian Island in the Pacific to the city of Hiroshima. This atomic bomb was given the nickname of the “Little Boy”. When the bomb touched ground, it exploded with the same force as 15,000 tons of TNT. The center of the explosion had a temperature of around 3500 degrees. This is three times hotter than volcanic lava and was why this bomb was able to burn down anything in its path. The explosion caused many fires which burned around 67 percent of Hiroshima.
