In the poem “We wear the mask” by Paul Laurence Dunbar emphasizes about hiding our beautiful face and show a fake mask, due to being slaved. Why show or wear a fake mask and have to worry about the color of our skin, or how we look? I believe that it should matter from the inside not from the outside because god created us to be all brothers and sisters, so that we can love each other for who we are. The speaker points out “It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes” (PG 678). Although, this line explains everything what a mask shows on a person because behind that mask, we cannot express our feelings, show happiness, or mad because it only shows our mouth and our eyes. …show more content…
At first when I read it I thought it was going to be a scary story, or based on a wrestler. Then when I read it about ten times the speaker wrote it based on slavery back in the days in America when there was racism, torturing different color skin, and even murdering. Since their color skin were not white, they were expected to wear a mask. Is sad that everywhere they would go such as: work, go out to eat, or take for a walk the speaker would have to wear a mask. So how would they show an emotion if behind that mask was nothing, but showing a fake
