I learned how to use search features in a cost efficient manner and locate journals, codes, cases, and administrative rules to draft memorandums and IRAC cases. As a result, I was able to apply the basic legal writing skills and traditional research methods learned the previous term, as well as enhance my understanding of how to combine these methods effectively in a law firm setting. Furthermore, I completed all the MCLE-approved workshops offered through the program regarding e-discovery and how to use the Trial Director software to try cases in an appealing and effective manner. All the skills and knowledge acquired through this program enabled me to obtain a job with the attorney who taught these workshops and work on thousands of electronically produced documents in a high-profile class action case in…

Hearing Attorney Lori Thompson speak was truly insightful because, it was interesting hear from an attorney who had a background of criminal prosecution then transitioning into Probate and Elder law. In the start of her presentation she explained to the class what made her want to be a lawyer. She outlined to the class that she dreamed of being a lawyer since seventh grade. With that simple wish to become a lawyer she developed the drive and passion she needed in order to get to where she wanted. In Attorney Lori Thompson’s Lecture I liked the fact that she was somewhat explicit on explaining to us on her experience or encounters with law school, and as a working attorney.…
Therefore, going to law school will enable me to help people in difficult situations. After I graduated from college, I started interning at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Victim Services Division. At the District Attorney’s Office, I Spent my time there learning the about the criminal prosecution process, and assisting victims of violent crimes navigate their way through the criminal justice system. I have also mentored troubled youth during my stint at the DA’s office. My time at the DA’s office was very beneficial because I got to learn directly from assistant district attorneys about different types of law and their application in a specific crime.…
Inquiry Question: Is it ever okay to break the law? Unit Objectives: The objective of this unit is two-fold. Students will be able to hone in on their skills of becoming affective ‘detectives’ and historians—analyze primary sources, compare and contrast concepts, create questions of their own (about laws), and finally experience a debate. Additionally, this unit aims to introduce the idea of law in America. By the end of the unit, students will be able to define law, have some conceptual understanding of why law is necessary in America, and consider whether or not it is ever okay to break the law.…
While interviewing Dylan McKinnon, a second year law student at the University of Iowa, I gained knowledge about the subject field and domain of law school and how it prepares students to emerge into the law field after graduation. I found Dylan during his office hours in the Pappajohn Business Building on the third floor on Friday afternoon. His office was poorly decorated with the only item on his desk being a laptop. The room seemed much too big for the minimal space that he was using but the artlessness mimicked his simple, but insightful answers to the interview questions. The room was grey and most likely could not be changed, a rule of the business college.…
Wythe enhanced his student’s understanding of law by introducing definitions to them, and applying them in real life situations. He pushed them to be successful lawyers by suggesting to observe moot court trials. Jefferson strengthened his work experience by shadowing such an acclaimed…
Studying the law, on the outside, seems to be dry as dust. With the archaic wording of the law to the sheer volume of laws to keep track of, it’s easy to dismiss law as only being important to attorneys and those that work for them. Yet law isn’t a world of its own. It is our world. A key part to understanding our world is understanding our laws, as both shape the other.…
Thomas Callahan and Gavin Verheek went to school together to study that body of law. They both ended up in different paths, Callahan was a law professor and Veerheek was an FBI agent. Con law can certainly be a hard uninteresting class for most college students to take. Students say Callahan was “popular because he taught constitutional law, a most unpopular class, but a required one”(Grisham 13). Callahan was favored by many students because of his “sheer brilliance and coolness he actually made con law interesting” (Grisham 13).…
Through my internship at the Kentucky State Treasury, I learned I had a true passion for the law world. I spent my time on Capitol Hill attending committee meetings, learning about how laws are formed and the different types of processes. It sanctioned me to meet various different lawyers, congressman, and major political figures who inspired me to pursue a career in law. My parent’s struggles throughout my childhood, have taught me valuable lessons in life and to never give up when things get tough.…

I personally have noticed many changes throughout this course. I mostly noticed how now I analyze my jobs more with my coworkers, bosses and myself. I have one job that I absolutely love and another one that I do not care for very much, I did not really understand why because I get along well with my coworkers and higher ups. As our course went on and I started to understand business some more I then realized why there were certain things that were shaping my views about my jobs. One big thing that I noticed was the team work at my jobs.…
My life and law experiences, both in and out of the classroom, have allowed me to cultivate excellent communication skills and relate to all people regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status. I feel passionately about using my knowledge of law to defend those who remain voiceless and suppressed in the legal system. I aspire to make a difference in my local community and one day, make my mark in the future of law and…

Since I was a child, my dream has always been to become a successful lawyer. There was only one problem. Which type of lawyer did I want to be? Usually, people wait until their senior year in college to decide which type of lawyer to become. However, I am a little different.…
