Initially, Bard High School Early College’s Academics were surprisingly overwhelming. A student was required to have at least a 2.0 GPA by sophomore year to participate in College Courses. In freshmen year, my grade point average was a subpar 2.57, a mundane C average. After class, I would stay and discuss more efficient study methods, potential upcoming exam topics, or specific assignment guidelines until I was confident in my abilities. My progressive efforts ensued in a successful spring semester in some challenging courses such as philosophy, accounting, and biology. In the moment, I was pleased but it was quickly supplanted by a hollow feeling. When I returned back home for summer break, I joined the project Urban Suburban Environment Pedal Farmers Internship. Throughout this six week program, I was exposed to many new things such as the farmer’s market, herbalism, healthy recipes, bike maintenance, gardening and food preparation. Most importantly, this internship taught me that I loved learning about food and nutrition.
