Lil’ Wayne was Macklemore’s inspiration, whom he wanted to rap like. Yet, because acting like “them” meant doing drugs, that’s what he did to be like his idols. The Pathos is where Macklemore opens up about his life with drugs and people can relate to the struggle of drug addiction. Macklemore adds, “We live on the cusp of death thinkin' that it won't be us….” (Lines 40-41) We live in a world where people believe that they won’t die, yet, we are man, not immortal. In the music video, we see Macklemore in some bedroom or hotel room. This depicts the location referring to Pimp C and where he was before he died. The darkened color tone and the imagery used gave a feeling of solitude and loneliness. Yet, even though there was a majority of darkened color there was still a tint of light that reflections the possibility of a positive outcome. In his lyrics, Macklemore uses some slang words to describe what is going on around him. Lean, a special cough syrup drink, is made of cough syrup, sprite, and jolly ranchers and known to be the color pink the more sprite you
