Abstract The History Channel’s documentary, Hooked-Opium, Morphine, and Heroin discusses these illegal drugs and how they became that way. The poppy plant has a long history of relieving pain and producing a state of euphoria. Opium, Morphine, and Heroin are all derivatives of the Papaver Somniferum (the poppy plant). Though these drugs were once legal and thought to be a miracle used to treat symptoms of many diseases, you will find that they caused addiction, harmful side effects, and even death.…

and 1939 C.E., China remained aggressive in their attempts to reject most Western ideas (CONT). The Chinese treated the Europeans much like the nomads and other peoples whom they saw as barbarians, and refused Western involvement in Chinese affairs. In 1815 C.E., China’s aggressive attempt to put an end to trade with the British for Opium had lasting effects. China strived to expel the foreigners and their ideas from China, but attempts were put down only through the intervention of the imperialist powers. Its failure led to even greater control over China 's internal affairs by the Europeans and a further devolution of power to provincial officials.…
Enterprising imperial nations had been plundering China as early as the 16th century, desiring the silk, tea, and porcelain that China possessed. By the Age of Imperialism, China was too weak to repel the onslaught of European powers competing for her resources. Britain, France, Russia, and later Japan and other nations, vied with each other for control of China’s wealth. China had been so weakened by centuries of exploitation that European interlopers wrote their own rules and forced the Chinese to capitulate to their imperial demands. Each European power in China controlled one or more of its ports, which they used to ship to Europe the resources they had plundered inland.…
Great Britain and China have a long history together with economic, religious, and political interactions. From 1792 to 1900, Great Britain had been interacting with trade, but Great Britain had been limited to the Forbidden City. China eventually went into isolation and began to separate itself completely until Great Britain had shown its Industrial Superiority in the 1800s. Another thing that sparked in the 1800 was the Opium war which severely affected Chinese and British relation. British abuse of China’s economic system and constant refusal to stop, sparked this war to start.…
During the 1850s opium addiction was a big problem. Many people were addicted to it and they needed to find a way to stop it. They gave people morphine which they thought was less addictive and less dangerous but that just lead to more problems. They “solved” the morphine problem with heroin. And after heroin it was methadone.…
China has for a long time considered itself to be self-sufficient and possessing the necessary items for success. Ultimately, this meant limited trade with the outside world. Thus, when Britain discovered the opportunity to gain access to large scale trade with China, they largely took advantage of it.…
Topic1: The role played by trade in the history of Sino-European relations from Yuan times to the Opium Wars Trade is often a form of national economic development, while trade can have a great influence on national relations. From Yuan to Ming, trade had a positive impact on the relationship between China and Europe, it helps to keep in good touch and promote economic development; From Qing to Opium Wars, trade was the main reason that England brought to war in China. Marco Polo as a traveler and a merchant from Venice, was the first one who truly shortens the distance between China and Europe. Before him, silk, porcelain and tea had always been a strong link between China and Europe. "…
As a trauma nurse, I frequently encounter patients who are in agonizing acute pain. Many times it is the first time in their lives they have faced such pain. The health care team strives to manage their pain properly, but a careful balance is required while considering the effects of long-term opioid use. Health care providers must be considerate of the weaning process and monitoring patients to make sure addiction does not occur, especially in patients with a history of substance abuse. Unfortunately, opioid abuse and related deaths are at an all-time high, so pain management is a much more challenging facet of the care of these patients.…
Overdosing death and dying is a hard topic for most people to talk about. When friends and family are involved it becomes even harder. An overdose is defined as intentional or accidental ingestion of a drug over the recommended amount. When an overdose occurs the body is overwhelmed and cannot dissolve the drug quick enough. When this happens the person can become unconscious, have abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, slow or raised heart rate, chest pains, and shallow or rapid breathing.…
Pharmacist hold the key to all the drugs sought by dealers and addicts. The problem is there is a constant struggle for retail pharmacist dealing with patients who go to a great extent to get their hands on these drugs. Pharmacist must determine whether the patient is there with the intent of feeding their addiction, or the purpose of reselling the drug or if the patient is there for a legitimate reason. It is not always easy to spot because a prescription is just a piece of paper. Doctors don't use a special type of paper when writing a prescription a lot of times with little effort an ordinary person can produce a spot on duplicate.…
Heroin Some people carry addictions as if it were a secret. They wouldn’t look like your typical drug addict. They were clean, took care of their kids, and lived life as if it were normal. That’s what Beth’s story was like. She was was your typical mom with beautiful children and a normal life.…
China’s power was especially weakened after the Opium Wars with Great Britain, the aftermath of which resulted in British control of Hong Kong and several unfair treaties. China, in its weakened state, soon became known as the “sick man of Asia” and several Eurasian countries, including France, Germany, Russia, and Japan, took advantage of this opportunity to increase their own power. These countries soon established settlements and spheres of influence within China, allowing them to possess certain rights and privileges within their region. It wasn’t long before China’s Imperial Court had lost the majority of its power to foreign influence. This newfound power allowed foreign countries to essentially control all Chinese trade; a reality that made foreigners wealthy, but deeply worried…
By 1800 the East India Company was purchasing 23 million pounds of tea per year at a cost of 3.6 million pounds of silver. Alarmed that the China trade was suctioning the silver out of England, the British probed for a kindred product to trade for China’s tea and pottery. They found this product in opium. The British merchants still did not have enough of this product to export and to balance their imports with China, so therefore they blamed the restrictions of the Canton trade for this failure they had.…
