People are easily able to connect with each other’s to create new ideas that can better our society. It creates an easy way to make connections for businesses, schools, and for people trying to raise money or awareness for a cause. Social Media gives business insight into what audiences can benefit from them. Between places like Facebook and Twitter anyone starting a business can have easy access to the thoughts, needs, and interests of people which they then can use to find the audiences that they should be targeting. This results in faster growth and awareness of the business. Other helpful uses of social media for businesses is the fact that you can get feedback from your customers which can allow people to better their business and make it geared toward what the audience wants. Charities and non-profit organizations can be benefitted by social media as well. It is an amazing place for the fast spread of information to countless people that would never had been reached in person. If one person with 30,000 followers were to like or tweet something to try and bring awareness to a cause it would mean that that 30,000 people likely saw it and will in turn do the same thing. This is a growing issue that can effect anyone who puts themselves out into social media and can happen in a number of ways and can end with devastating consequences. Whether it’s an embarrassing or inappropriate picture that is spread around, a nasty rumor, mean texts and messages or even a received threat bullying online is hurtful and very public. Cyber- bullying can however get even more serious with almost all of a person’s personal information out and accessible to almost anyone whether it’s on a private account or not. A study was conducted and broadcasted on a 2010 CBS News report that said 42% of young people on social media have been the victims of cyber-bullying. Bullying is done more when the bullies feel that they are anonymous and not in danger of being caught and for bullies, places like Instagram and Facebook are easy places to spread hate. This kind of bullying can cause a victim to develop large emotional scars that lead to depression and even suicide. We see these effects in the story of a high school student named David Molak.
