Brian’s lecture was really interesting, and got me thinking about the kinds of social justice that I am passionate about. I am really not one for participating in rallies or anything like that, so I figured I was not right for social justice, but after reading in On Being a Therapist I realized social justice can be really varied. He talks about how he has a foundation for helping girls in Nepal to stay in school, because many families who cannot afford school for all of their children sometimes sell their daughters to brothels (Kottler, 2010). I am passionate about women’s rights and it would be incredible to be able to be involved in some kind of social justice that works to advocate for women not just in America but all over the world. But again, this is where cultural competency and understanding addressing frameworks comes into play: equality and empowerment does not look the same to me as it does to women in India, Japan, or
