1. Nutrition Standards for Foods in Schools: Leading the Way Toward Healthier Youth

This intervention takes a look at the school’s environment and identifies nutrition related health concerns. The goal is to improve the student bodies health by offering nutritious foods and beverages outside class, decreasing sales of calorically sweetened beverages, and increasing the states that incentivize food vendors to sell food that follow dietary guidelines. Following the assessment is educational counseling on health behaviors that may be changed to positively affect a person’s later health outcomes. The studies done have found that assessments with feedback alone do not lead to large improvement but with added education programs have more impact.
3. Effectiveness of Primary Care—Relevant Treatments for Obesity in Adults
a. Developed by USPSTF
This intervention emphasizes the importance of the primary care physician’s active role in weight loss counseling, and intervention in patients. The interventions used by the physicians were a variation of metformin drug, educational counseling, and behavioral counseling. Overall it was found that doctors who scheduled more frequent checkups with those dealing with obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes saw greater improvement than in those patients’ who did not visit a physician regularly.

It does so through providing full or partial reimbursements, and vouchers for cancer screenings. It’s goal is to increase the number of people who get these important health screening and there is an improvement due to this program.
2. Improving Access to Oral Health Care for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations

“HRSA and California HealthCare Foundation asked the IOM and the National Research Council to assess the current oral health care system, to develop a vision for how to improve oral health care for vulnerable and underserved populations, and to recommend ways to achieve this vision.” (healthypeople.gov) It is currently no in action but provides a strategic roadmap for future incorporation. Oral health is critical to one’s overall health and is an issue many face for lack of insurance and appropriate funds to pay for such necessary services.
