The preceptorship rotation afforded me the opportunity to put into practice majority of the nursing skills and the various theories learned. Indeed, the whole experience laid down the course in achieving nursing competency. This was my last scheduled preceptorship, and I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to work with nurses that had full confidence in my ability. So, this gave me the fortuity to focus primarily on providing care, especially for the special needs of each patient that requires specialized nursing interventions. Basic glucose testing and even providing perineal care to patients with chronic illness is not a simple task, but is made difficult by the constant pain, the severity, and the incertitude brought by their disease. And, for the purpose of providing these patients that much needed care, I needed to critically think while also relying on my understanding of the disease process. Additionally, this week’s preceptorship further enhanced my understanding of the theoretical knowledge and provided hands-on practical application of the nursing process that guided me in fulfilling my role as a caregiver. Thus, it proved especially important to have the guidance and tutelage of a seasoned nurse. Although, the challenges and the difficulties arise in my provision of care, I was fully confident that with my preceptor at my side, everything will be alright. Nursing is physically exhausting and emotionally draining, but at the end of each day I was able to accomplish the necessary nursing intervention each patient needed in that nine hour shift spent in that unit. Indeed, some might think little things will not matter, but I know that I have done the best patient care I could have possibly provided. Needless to say, I am thankful to have been given the opportunity to practice, gain knowledge, and further understand the nursing process through one competent
