As a result, a lot of people suffered from lack of work and eventually, hope. The newly-elected president, Franklin Roosevelt made moves in order to help American people stand up again. He started thinking of programs to ease the problems caused by the Depression like the New Deal. The program focused on reliefs, economic recovery and financial reform. At some point, it played mainly a big part on minorities and women for taking up their mark. A part of its stated, “One of the most notable changes during the New Deal was the naming of several women to important government positions.” (The Americans page 710) The New deal created a big significance for women playing governmental roles. It was the first time that women were given the chance to prove that they could also rule the government and not only men. The woman who became the first cabinet member was Frances Perkins and she even played a major role in creating the Social Security system and supervised labor legislation. As the consequence of the New Deal, it helped Frances Perkins to advocate also for promoting women’s life. One of the plan stated, “Perkins pledged to fight for labor reforms, especially those for women.” (The Americans page 11) President Roosevelt did a great job on promoting equality for everyone since a big change in the society has been achieved through his program. Each of the actions made truly benefited women since they were be able to just become themselves and still worked for the country. With women being able to support her fellow women was the greatest achievement that the New Deal brought. This type of program truly fulfilled the needs of every woman with its different policies.
