Chemistry has long been my favourite subject at school and the topic which interests me most is organic chemistry, especially aromatic compounds. I entered the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and succeeded in achieving a silver award.

I love reading and recently finished The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks in which I was introduced to the brain and the many ways it can malfunction. I also relax by playing and listening to music and I am currently working towards achieving Grade 8 in Piano and Grade 3 in Harp. I was a member of Altrincham Swimming Club for 8 years, attending training regularly during the week and representing the team in galas. I completed the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award in which our team planned, prepared for and completed an overnight expedition, alongside volunteering work with brain injury charity Headway.
I have personal experience of grandparents suffering from severe memory problems so I understand how devastating brain disorders can be. I am excited by the possibility of contributing to significant advances in our understanding of the nervous system and to benefit those suffering from such disorders. Everything I undertake I do with a positive outlook and a focused determination to achieve my goals. I have chosen to apply for a course of study which I believe will offer me an exciting and challenging area of scientific endeavour to which I would be happy to dedicate my
