Pointing to the second box “middle” in the graphic organizer say I was so sad I couldn’t find him anywhere. Pointing to the third box “end” in the graphic organizer say finally I looked underneath the bed and there he was and I was so happy. Say my story has a beginning, middle, and end as you point to each of the boxes in the graphic organizer. Ask students, “What happened in the beginning of the story?” Give them a minute to respond. Ask students, “What happened next?” Call on a student. Call on a student. Once the students provides an answer, say “Very good, I looked under the bed and there he was. When I found him I became happy.” Draw an image of myself with a happy face and my dog underneath my bed. For each of the words I write in the graphic organizer, I’m going to sound them out. Ask “Does my story have a beginning, a middle and an end?” Wait for them to answer. Say “Can someone come up and point to the beginning, middle, and end of my story?” The student will come up to the white board and point to the appropriate areas.
