I am the oldest sibling. My family tree was always my dad, mom, me, and my little sister who is 8 years younger than me. My dad had always been the captain of the ship. He moved the whole family to America. My parents knew English but was not as fluent as my sister and I. I was the main the person that my parents came to when it comes to translating, or writing certain important emails for them. They knew only so much of the American society and culture, but they did their best for me and my sister. They did everything to make sure we lived the life that they did not back in Thailand. I had to become the leader of my family. I cannot rely on my parents anymore, especially my dad. My mom was not the same person anymore. Her mood swings were very frustrating to deal with. Dad was completely paralyzed on his right side, and he had lost all of his speech. I had to worry about school, my sister, selling the restaurant, and how to live the new life. This change has made me a stronger person, physically and mentally. After a whole lot of therapy, my dad started gaining some movements back. He can now walk again, and his speech has improved, compared to when he was completely incontinent and unable to move on his own. It was a drastic change within the first 6 months of recovery. Change can be hard to accept sometimes, but once I accepted the facts about my dad’s new life, I am happier. He is still the man that took care of me, and now its my turn to repay the favor. Unlike a rollercoaster ride, life is not always fun, and it is a much longer journey for us to
