A couple summers ago my family and I took a vacation to our home country: The Philippines. The Philippines is a country in the Pacific Ocean filled with wild beasts, tropical climates, exotic food choices, and unbelievable tourist’s spots. My adventures in the Philippines were nothing I’d ever expect; but traveling to a different country always has its ups and downs. During the trip I had encountered many new people and experiences I never knew imaginable, and I learned many new things that changed my perspective on life and my culture.
I was born here in Texas, but my parents had influenced me into the Filipino culture while I was growing up. My mom always said, “Texan born, but Filipino raised.” And as time passed I realized that what she said was true. I grew to love my heritage and background, I learned to understand the Tagalog language, I ate rice and adobo (Adobo is a Filipino delicacy almost every Filipino eats), I learned to understand the jokes and games at parties, I learned the proper clothes to wear at weddings, I learned the traditions and …show more content…
I realized that it’s not all the material processions, or how much money that you have that can make you feel happy, it’s the ability to keep moving forward and staying hopeful. Family can always change the circumstances of things, no matter how hard the struggle is, as long as there’s someone there to share it with you and help you get through hard times, it’s almost like your wealthy already. I guess the moral of the story was that I need to appreciate things that I already have and realize that if I’m having a hard day, someone else is having a worse
