Sports are a good way to stay healthy, and if a person is in good health, they can keep up with younger people which in turn make them feel younger. Sitting at the pool after water aerobic gets over you can always hear someone bragging that their doctor says they have the heart of a twenty-five year old, or that they’re training for a marathon. My grandfather tore his rotator cuff at seventy-four, but now a year later, you would never know. When asked to guess his age, no one ever comes close. He goes golfing multiple times a week, works a full time job, and manages to spend at least four month out of the year in Arizona. To theses seniors like my grandfather, age is nothing more than a number. Even if they can’t keep up the competitive level they did in their twenties, they can keep up with those twenty years younger than them and still be competitive. Age now is seen more as a number and less of something to be defined by. Even in my relatively short life, I can attest to the fact that my definition of old had changed in the past ten years. As we age our view on the world changes and what we consider important and how we define things change. Even though adaptations may need to be made to allow for the aging population to play sports, it is a phenomenon that is gaining momentum as the over seventy age group grows
