Students have experiences in:
-Recognizing and appreciating the music while listening to radio, watching films, televisions or other media.
-Review concepts of music through various aural examples as a class. -Aural: Students start the topic through aural examples to identify the music excerpts and scenes related to excerpts.
-Students listen to the ABC News Theme music and discuss how the music links the scene and build the familiarity for audience.
-Students listen then watch short clips of Star Wars and discuss how music describe the scene, use knowledge of concepts of music.

Musicology: Students study John William’s musical works through scores, interviews and films, understand composer’s perspective on composing music and the importance of music for these media.
Watch the documentary “Star Wars Music by John Williams” over two periods and discuss the contents of the documentary and how composer collected and produced sound and demonstrated the film through music. Students will participate in class discussion and discuss the concepts of music such as structure, dynamics and expressive technique through reading scores.
Students will understand and make notes from the documentary of how John William composes music for Star Wars. Teacher’s comments on composition skills and how composers structure the work such as use of different sound sources, dynamics, and structure and etc components.
