“The Morning Raga” is a film based on the play written by Mahesh Datani. This story basically revolves around music. In this story there are two best friends Swarnlata who is a Carnatic singer and Vaishnavi is shown as a violinist. On getting an opportunity of singing in the concert Swarnlata dominates Vaishnavi on accompanying her with their children. On the way their bus met with an accident with the car on the bridge of their village and the bus falls into the river due to which Swarnlata loses her son and her friend Vaishnavi. He wanted that he should be remembered through his work in the field of music for ages like the majestic “TAJ MAHAL of AGRA”. He had a desire to open his own music troop so he formed his own music troop in the city with the help of his friend “Pinky” and gave their first performance in the bar where no one complained but no one appreciated also. They learnt their first lesson from the bar owner as he quoted that “there are about 1000’s of music troops in this country, what is special in you that everyone should listen to you”. The another theme which arose was the “generation gap” since father of Abhinay wanted him to follow the old traditions by joining the family business of farming and becoming the landlord of his fatherly properties as he was his only child but Abhinay was least interested as his aim was to be a famous musician. So his father was upset that he could not get his son the way he wanted. The another theme which arose was the “old superstitious mind set of a person” , since Swarnlata was suffering from superstitions that due to her over ambitious nature and her impatience about pursuing her dream of singing into a city
