The “space race” was an intense battle between the Soviets and the Americans to be the first country to put a man on the moon, an event that had not been accomplished yet. This race had a significant effect in the probability of the moon landing being staged. The Soviets, had an advantage over the U.S because they had launched Sputnik, the first satellite to be placed into orbit around the earth. This event ushered in the “Space Race” with the beeping signal from the first satellite. Afterwards, the Soviets continued in their space exploration and launched Sputnik 2 on November 3, 1957. Inside Sputnik 2 was Laika, a dog that was the first astronaut (Krupp). As both superpowers continued to proceed with their space exploration, the ultimate goal was to get a man on the moon. Both superpowers wanted to be the first to achieve that goal. Therefore, the United States may have faked the moon landing in order to win the “Space Race”. Ultimately the belief of a possible moon landing being replicated in a stage on earth rather than actually achieving their goal of landing on the moon is debatable as well as controversial. There are many inconsistencies surrounding the moon landing evidence, and the motive to be the first power on the moon may certainly have resulted in a moon landing hoax. Given these points many theorists refuse to believe
