The three years that surround the flag are 1819, which was the year that Fort Snelling was built. 1893 also the year the Minnesota state flag came into play, and 1858 which was the year that Minnesota became the 32nd state in the United States. Even though Fort Snelling has had a lot of history with the state of Minnesota, I believe that having the date on the flag is irrelevant and should be removed. Also, Fort Snelling was once a concentration camp for Native Americans and with that it has kind of a bad stigma to the fort. In 1893 it was the year that the official Minnesota state flag came into play and even though the date is somewhat significant because it was the year that the flag was official, I still see the date irrelevant and should also be removed from the flag with nothing to replace it. Finally the date 1858, it was the year that Minnesota became a state. In my opinion the year is significant and should stay on the flag, but I don’t like it’s placing. I believe that the date should be on the very top of the flag, out of the inner circle where the main image is. Personally I believe that the date should be more
