In order to determine how human behavior and social groups correlates with low income, a comprehensive questionnaire of full and part time employees will be administered. Over the past five decades, the federal government has attempted to combat poverty across the country; however, this battle is still ongoing today (HHS, 2016). The inconsistency of wage increases has imposed many years of hardship for minimum wage earners in the US (Smith, 2015). Due to inconclusive myths about how an increase in wages will adversely affect unemployment, has sparked disagreements among those who favor an increase in wages, and those who opposes it. The ongoing battle between the groups, leaves many minimum wage earners in a quandary, having to tolerate everyday life expenses (Konczal, 2014). The theory can be used as a motivation for policy makers to act upon creating a comprehensive minimum wage law, which will include frequent incremental increase in wages. With these frequent increases, the quality of life for minimum wage earners can improve and the number of individuals seeking public assistance decrease. Figure 1 below presents the outcome of the study, indicating that a high rate of participants had been 15.3% for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) with 13.4%. (Census, 2015) Unfortunately, this is a significant amount of people seeking public assistance in these two categories alone, not to mention the remaining categories as well. While the government has created several programs to assist low income families, some individuals lack understanding of how these programs can assist their needs. Amongst these programs, education, health care, and housing are useful programs which can help minimum wage earners obtain a better quality of life. Social interaction stems from the previous three elements, by helping individuals gain better self-esteem.
