It is a “nonmedical process that helps individuals with psychological disorders recognize and overcome their problems” (King, p528). In most cases, the combination of drug therapy and psychotherapy is a desirable course of treatment to depression. There are several kinds of approach of psychotherapy like psychoanalysis (analyzing an individual’s unconscious thoughts), humanistic therapy (emphasis on people’s self-healing capacities that encourage patients to understand themselves and grow personally), behavior therapy (treatments based on a person’s behavior and social cognitive theories of learning that use principles learning to reduce or maladaptive behavior), cognitive therapy (treatments that point to cognition (thoughts) as the main source of psychological problems and attempt to change the individual’s feelings and behaviors by changing cognitions), integrative therapy (a combination of techniques from different therapies based on the therapist’s judgment of which particular methods will provide the greatest benefit for the client), and lastly, group therapy (a social approach to the treatment of psychological disorders that brings together individuals who share a particular disorder in sessions that are typically led by a mental health …show more content…
