The developmental theory states that children are actively creating gender and gender-stereotypes and values in their minds to understand the world around them (Ramirez, 2015). The child’s mind is simple yet complex. Gender identity can be seen as a biological trait rather than something that is developed over the years. Although environment may be a factor that may affect a child’s realization of identity, it is self actualization that defines the gender. Indeed, humans have a general physical identity from birth, but the configurations of male and female are much more developed when the waves of masculinity and femininity go into effect and how these waves are present in each person.
