Many leaders come in different shapes and forms, backgrounds and color. In the United States of America, we have been blessed and fortunate enough to have our history books filled with great leaders. Leaders like our 1st President George Washington who was commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolution. Another great leader in our history books from the most recent era would be Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was passionate about a dream to bring everyone together no matter about race or ethnic background, for equality among all men and women no matter what color. He showed leadership values that included love, integrity, honesty, non-violence and caring. These are just a few examples of what the kind of leaders that we have had in our American History that has impacted mankind in America. Martin Luther King Jr. followed certain aspects of the servant leadership. They were placing service before self-interest, because Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t need recognition as an African American fighting for equal rights for all African Americans during civil rights movement. He was hated on by some, but still pushed for what he believed would benefit those that need the change in the southern states of America. As mentioned above, just through his inspiring speeches and ethical leadership styles, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired through trust. Another servant leadership would be the fact that he worked towards feasible goals. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, as we all know from his famous words as we know still today, he was a role model to many with self-sacrifice towards achieving civil rights for all mankind.
