Marco Rubio’s boots has become a controversial issue in the U.S .especially in political section in media. Rubio’s boots previously became one of popularly debated issues after he was photographed wearing heeled-shoes which are similar to pair of boots. According to Emily Crockett, Rubio’s boots are recorded by The New York Times as "one of the weirder firestorms of the presidential campaign, and "bootgate" (please make it stop) has eclipsed any other fashion …show more content…
Thai people categorize gender and stereotype masculinity and femininity from lots of sources like their family, school and media. They also categorize kinds of clothing what is suitable for men and women. For example, men should wear suits, slacks, ties, and black shoes without heel. If men wear differently from these such as wearing heeled-shoes, they might be criticized and noticed by others. In other words, “gender can also be indexed by physical or linguistic signs, including the way one stands or walks” (Traiger, 4). In Marco’s case, if it happens in Thailand, people will think he is homosexual or gay because they consider gender from what they observe such as his clothing style. They might get the idea of gender and identity from many sources of media like TV show and advertisement. Finally, this controversial issue shows about normalization in terms of gender stereotype. In Marco Rubio’s case, it shows that people in society categorize gender by looking at clothing. People can interpret that Marco is homosexual or gay because they consider from his looking style. That is, heeled-shoes are not suitable for men. They are for women because gender can be interpreted indirectly by physical sign and styles (Traiger, …show more content…
