Emilia understands the meaning and important of the handkerchief and tells Iago if he doesn’t need it for important reasons that she will return it to Desdemona. Emilia knows that Desdemona will lose her identity and sanity when she finds out she lost it. Iago tells Emilia to not tell anyone of the whereabouts of the handkerchief and to leave him alone. Iago begins to set his malice plans against Othello with proof that will enrage Othello. Since Iago’s deep hatred from Othello arises from Cassio gaining position as lieutenant Iago sets the trap to Cassio to wipe Othello’s admiration from him.
