When it comes to racial crimes and segregation there is nothing more depressing than talking about how many times our world has been through it. It has happened throughout our entire lives and sadly it still happens today. The devastation and violence from these acts have shaped the way our society is and it’s not necessarily good. As a white male I can’t say I have ever been part of any minority group, but as a white female in South Africa during the 1960s you could say it was quite shocking to be on the opposite side. In the book The Unlikely Secret Agent by Ronnie Kasrils a woman, Eleanor was living amongst the South African Apartheid.…

On Tuesday night viewers of “NCIS: New Orleans” were looking at a victim with her eyes carved out. Agent Pride’s team caught a case involving a gruesome crime that including stabbing the victim multiple times and taking out their eyeballs. While this hideous crime might be enough to investigate, it was Dr. Loretta Wade who pointed out it was not the first time she had seen this type of crime. Connecting the crime to an individual who was recently released from jail, the search is on for the man who the team alleges is responsible. The two killings in New Orleans, while years apart, seem to match perfectly and this gives the team enough motive to hunt down the recently released felon to wrap up the case.…

Just as Bryan Stevenson’s grandmother told him, getting close to issues important to people is imperative to fully understanding them (Stevenson 14). Individuals such as Akon, the owner of the Akon Lighting Africa organization, realized how people are at a disadvantage without electricity in Africa, so he bought land in Africa and is using solar electricity to power small villages. By experiencing this first-hand and getting close to the living conditions, he is able to understand exactly what these people are going through. Couples like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt understand how so many children are homeless, so they personally got involved in trying to fix the issue by adopting three children (Dailymail.com).…

It is a day of recovery and healing for Eddie Ray Routh as he is going to make his first real attempt at socializing, and with other veterans nonetheless, since his last departure from the Veterans Affairs hospital in Dallas. Just as this day of recovery and healing is beginning, things take that turn for the worst; Eddie murders his two companions, Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. A man craving to interact with someone that has faced the problem he is facing, post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, suddenly had a mental break. Post-traumatic stress disorder is a life altering disorder, which took quite the toll of the life of Routh on a daily basis.…
Chandler Bridges May 14, 2015 Agent Orange “One Significate Ghost" In war, the first prerogative is that you must be able to find the enemy. During the Vietnam war, the United States utilized a group of herbicides which became known as the “Rainbow Herbicides" (Murray 2005) These chemicals, prefixed with "agent" named for their color, were stored in 55 gallon metal barrels with a simple, color-coded strip to designate the contents, of all the "agents", Agent Orange was the most extensively utilized, with 150,000 gallons being sprayed each at the height of the conflict. In this essay, I will argue that it is permissible to kill a villainous aggressor, an innocent aggressor, and an innocent threat, but not an innocent bystander. According to Judith Jarvis Thompson, it is morally permissible for person A to kill person B in self-defense if and only if (1) B will kill A unless A kills B, and (2) if B kills A, the B will violate A ’s right that B not kill A (Handout #16). The villainous aggressor is someone who is intentionally trying to kill you and who is morally responsible for trying (Handout #16).…
