Madness has existed in the human psyche from humanities earliest people. The idea of isolating those that are perceived as having poor mental health, or mad, is far from a new concept. Some of the earliest public institutions for those clinically insane dates back to the late 17th century (Porter, 2008). These early treatment institutions were far from ideal, often not much better than prisons at the time (Taylor, 2014). Treatment facilities have since improved and for my undergraduate apprentice applied project I am working at Logan River Academy (LRA). Encourage adherence to and maintain the directives of their individual behavioral modification therapies while giving them the chance to sleep at night. In the hopes of bolstering the therapeutic process to encourage their recovery.
For my applied project in my undergraduate apprentice course, I had the opportunity to find a project that directly applies to the psychological field. I have chosen to use my employment as a male adolescent counselor grave-shift staff at LRA as my project. For this project to be considered successful I identified five learning objectives. They are as follows:
1. Effectively manage students request on dorm as they occur.
2. Practice implementing effective verbal de-escalation, should violent circumstance arise.
3. Cultivate the skill set needed to work at a youth treatment center.
4. Maintain my in-house credentials by attending required training and meetings.

We have improved the quality of facilities since the emergence of mental institutions. As a field of research, we have made significant strides in developing effective new forms of treatment to help individuals struggling, especially with behavioral issues. For my psychology undergraduate apprenticeship project, I will be working at Logan River Academy as a male counselor night-staff, a treatment facility for delinquent youth. It is my hope that I will become more acquainted and develop a better understanding of modern psychology as I undertake this
