The therapist recommended that Natalie see a doctor that specializes in Lyme Disease, also known as a Lyme literate doctor. The Lyme literate doctor took one look at Natalie and knew that she had Lyme Disease. She tested Natalie and began treating her for Lyme Disease. Natalie continued treatment for four years. She had her ups and downs on her antibiotics. Sometimes the antibiotics made her feel sick, and other times she felt a little better. After a while, the doctor said that she couldn’t help Natalie anymore. She referred Natalie to a specialty clinic in Georgetown. Along with the medication, my mother tried countless other things to help her get better. She took Natalie to chiropractors, holistic doctors, and tried improving her diet. During that time, Natalie was taking several pills and her diet was restricted. She felt depressed and angry. Nothing seemed to make the Lyme Disease go away completely.
