I could work as much or as little as I wanted. For instance, some lifeguards worked no more than four hours in a week, while others, such as myself, worked thirty or forty. If for any reason I could not work a certain shift that was assigned to me, I could just ask another lifeguard to cover for me. Also, whenever I wanted more hours, there was always someone who was willing to give up his or her shift. Having such freedom in my working schedule allowed me to enjoy the job much more than I otherwise would have.
