A year and a half later my father also got ill. Being the eldest child in my family, I was responsible for taking care of my younger siblings while my parents were at the hospital. Some of my mom’s aunts and uncles live there and we were on our way to visit them. When we arrived, I was really shocked at their living conditions. Although they had houses, they were very small and cramped, holding just bare necessities. My mom 's cousins and uncles would be out all day working on a farm and trying to make enough money to raise their children. It made me think of how blessed I am, having a nice house to live in and more than enough clothes and food, and at that moment I decided that I wanted to share that blessing with others.
When I got back to Washington, the school year had already started. I got busy looking for community service opportunities and volunteered wherever I could. Then, in 2011 a new organization started in our community, The Muslim Community Resource Center (MCRC). I became involved with this organization, packing food packs for needy families or conducting gift drives during the holidays. Now, I am the youth director of that same organization, organizing projects in which the youth in our community can participate in. I really enjoy helping others and seeing the smiles it
