In this approach the ability to adapt to situational elements is a large part of becoming a good leader “In ‘Decoding Leadership’, ‘problem solving is clearly defined as the step before decision-making. It is the process of gathering information, then analyzing and considering it” (Tyler, 2016: p1). The traits of a sound business leader are qualities that allow someone to demonstrate situational control and then make informed decisions “Leaders enjoy high situational control when they have good relations with their staff, a position of power, and a clearly structured task” (Kassin, Fein, and Markus, 2013: p550). Following the contingency model, leaders applying skills to specific situations allow managers to motivate employees based off specific scenarios rather then general motivating applications “Such insights have led to businesses training middle management in how to regulate employees’ emotions relative to the situation, rather than simply providing training in ‘how to motivate employees’” (Kolditz, 2010: p1). A transactional leader sets clear goals and uses rewards to accomplish them is one “A transactional leader gains compliance and support from followers by setting clear goals for them, by offering tangible rewards, by providing assistance, and by fulfilling psychological needs in exchange for an expected level of job performance” (Kassin, Fein, and Markus, 2013: p552). A transformational leader unites people to a common cause or purpose “Transformational leaders motivate others to transcend their personal needs in the interest of a common cause, particularly in times of growth, change, and crisis” (Kassin, Fein, and Markus, 2013: p552). Each style is used to promote change within society; transactional styles tend to be on a more subtle level while transformational leadership is used for more radical fundamental change. According to
